Facebook

Facebook is advertised as “the way to stay in touch”. I have come to realize that Facebook is one giant blog written daily by my 130 friends. A lot of us, me included, like to live our lives on stage and Facebook has provided us the perfect means.

This is not a bad thing, because at times our own little worlds can be very lonely places. We all need to be validated, complimented, needed, heard, loved, and hugged (even the proverbial virtual hug feels good). Facebook is the only place where washing your kitchen floor is equivalent to a Caribbean cruise. It lifts your mood just to be able to tell people about it and both are worthy of a thumbs up. Now you might think a thumbs up is a small thing. Not so. When I get a thumbs up, I say “Cool” and, for the rest of the day, maybe walk a little taller.

It works as a mood booster the other way around, too. You’ve heard it said that if you smile at someone you just might brighten their day, and in return you feel good for encouraging someone else along the tough road of life. Thumbs up are virtual smiles and they only take a second – just like a real smile in line at the checkout counter. I feel if some of my 130 friends took time to venture out on stage and show us all a bit of their life, then sometimes, a quick thumbs up is in order.

I hope, as a result of reading this, today you’ll give out a thumbs up to one of your Facebook friends and both of you will walk a bit taller and lighter as a result.
(only one caution – if you decide to make a lot of your friends happier today – turn off your email and text alerts)

And so, my friends, I leave the virtual stage as another day goes by, and, once again…..I have WRITTEN!
