Meet Lucinda

Today, at 3:12 am, my first fictional character was brought to life. She was born yesterday, during The Fire Within writers workshop I am attending this weekend. Since you are my very first “readers”, it is only fitting that you should be the first to meet her.

The Fire Within

Spent the entire day here in Hyannis with best selling author Anne LeClair at a writing workshop, The Fire Within. The woman is absolutely amazing. Not only is she a master at her craft, but also a master of imparting her knowledge to fledgling writers like me. I never thought, listened, pondered, learned, risked, pushed, . . . → Read More: The Fire Within

“Come From A Place of Love”

Today Mackenzie Phillips was on The Talk, which most of you know, is my favorite show. In 2009 her book came out. It was her story of being abused by her father. She proceeded to tell that she worked very hard to tell her story, but she left a lot out to protect her brothers . . . → Read More: “Come From A Place of Love”

Tuning the Five String Harp

I learned an Irish phrase “tuning the five string harp” when I read “Listening Beneath the Noise”, by Anne LeClaire. It means “opening the five senses and bringing them into alignment so they work in consonance”. In the book the author remarks that tuning the senses is much like tuning any instrument. It takes time . . . → Read More: Tuning the Five String Harp

Super Bowl – Super Book

Tonight, a great time had at a super bowl party with friends and family. All day, a great afternoon spent with an awesome novel from Oprah’s book club – Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. Amazing writing. Poser: My Life In 23 Yoga Poses…

….. by Claire Dederer is a memoir exquisitely told through one woman’s life long trek through many yoga teachers and studios. Who would think for a minute that the positions we contort ourselves into in the yoga studio, would parallel what we experience in our daily lives enough to communicate a life story?

Listening Beneath the Noise

Yesterday morning I was sitting quietly having my tea while the rest of the house slept. I was beginning to pray fervently about some things weighing on my mind with loved ones. I started my usual "Oh please God…" when He suddenly stopped my prayer, and almost like He was standing in front of me, . . . → Read More: Listening Beneath the Noise

Salt (not the movie)

Today I read an interesting story in my daily meditation book, The Book of Awakening by Mark Nepo. (I highly recommend this book for your spiritual endeavors for 2011)

An old Hindu master grew tired of his apprentice complaining so he gave him a glass of water and a handful of salt and told him . . . → Read More: Salt (not the movie)

The Hardest Way

“I’m takin the hardest way” is a lyric from a favorite song, Bikram writes “The right way is the hard way” and we say a hundred times “Can’t anything ever be easy?”. I think I see a connection here.

What is right, true, and worthy of our trust, is hard, and takes daily work. . . . → Read More: The Hardest Way
